The Salt River High School varsity football team is making a name for itself as an inclusive group that values teamwork, family and Community above all else. Having fun is an expectation alongside hard work both on the field and in the classroom.

Please support the team as it wraps up the Fall 2017 season in October with the Homecoming game Friday, Oct. 6, and Senior Night Thursday, Oct. 19. Click here for the athletic schedule.

We hope the hype video below (featuring practice and game highlights, plus powerful words from Head Coach Brandon Keith and sophomore quarterback Jacob Schurz) energizes and inspires you!

VIDEO TRANSCRIPT

Head Coach Brandon Keith

:26 You have to lean on each other. We need each other. I always preach bonding, but I always just try to have them believe. You have to believe that you’re better than you think, but you have to believe in something positive.

:57 And I really, really do believe that if we can continue to bond and build, we’re gonna get that belief. Like, it’s y’all’s team and we’re only going to go as far as y’all wanna go. And you have to let them know that they’re a part of this. They’re playing not just for my pride, they’re playing for their pride and they’re playing for their school pride and their Community pride. So, you always have to definitely relate them into what you’re doing because if you don’t -- what are they there for?

1:46 I took myself and my other coaches out of the huddle, because they have to start understanding that we’re not always going to be there, so they started believing each other to where they didn’t even know that we weren’t there. They were depending on themselves. It was kind of unique to see a couple of my girls and even guys who’ve never played just say, “Just compete,” this intensity come up, like, I’m ready to make this play. Or if they make a play they automatically knew, like, “I’m ready to make another play.”

2:43 If we’re together, man, we can be some strong stuff.

Quarterback Jacob Schurz (Junior)

2:50 You see how much fun you can have. You see how much work you gotta put in, how much running, how much hitting. There’s no more messing around. This is our statement right now: By the end of the season, I expect all of you to know everything you’re supposed to do, when you’re supposed to do it at the exact right time. Alright? I’m proud of every one of you guys right now.
