This is the image for the news article titled Student Composers Prepare for Heard Performance on 8/30Several SRHS student musicians were selected to work with world-renowned composer Raven Chacon (Diné) this week to create a 3-minute composition for a string quartet.

The student masterpieces will be performed by the Catalyst Quartet Friday, August 30, at the Heard Museum. The concert begins at 6 p.m.; it is free and open to the public. Click here for more information about that performance.

The students and their music are part of a long-running program from the Grand Canyon Music Festival called the Native American Composer Apprentice Project. In 2001, the Festival initiated the NACAP to extend its outreach to training talented Native students in the art of composition. NACAP develops musical literacy and enhances critical thinking and decision-making skills through the study of music composition.
